Impersonation Engine

Working with Impersonation Engine

The Impersonation Engine functionality allows an authorized user to preview the content through the lens of another user (persona); navigate the entire site based on the selected persona to ensure the site is working as designed; and troubleshoot issues before publishing. Personas can be created, edited and deleted using the Persona Builder; please reference “Working with Persona Builder” section for more information on personas.

To launch the Impersonation Engine, click on the  mask button on the Akumina tray.

The system will invoke the Impersonate Persona screen to select a persona to impersonate.

Personas can be searched using “Search Persona by User Name” or “Search by Persona Name”. Personas can also be targeted based on other attributes; city, state and department.

Note: If a persona is not selected, a generic “All” persona will be used for impersonation.

To search for a persona by user name, enter at least three characters of a name in the search box and click on the name. The name will be highlighted in green, and the personas associated with the user attributes will display on the screen. The refine by other attributes are populated based on the user highlighted, although can be changed or left blank.

Personas can be selected by checking the box to the left of the persona name, and the impersonate filter can be refined by other attributes; choosing city, state or department to filter against the persona selected.

The persona(s) selected will be displayed under the search box. To remove a selected persona, click the X to the right of the persona or uncheck the check box to the left of the persona.

The impersonation status on the bottom of the screen will provide a dynamic tool tip of the chosen information that will be used by the impersonation engine to simulate your site experience.

The Impersonation Engine changes the query against the content to instruct the system to use the values from Impersonator rather than the current user. Impersonation Engine does not log the authorized user in as the current user or update the current user record.

This feature allows an authorized user to view the content of the pages through the lens of another user (persona) and navigate the entire site to ensure the site is working as designed for that persona prior to publishing.

To exit impersonate mode, click on the mask icon .

To quickly determine the available personasclick on the  debug button on the Akumina tray. A new persona tab framework has been added to the user context, to view the personas.

User personas tab displays all the personas attributed to the logged in user.

All personas tab displays all the personas recognized by the frontend system.

Persona enabled lists tab displays which lists have the persona filtering enabled. In the example below, GenericPages_AK has persona filtering enabled.

Note: Not all content lists are filtering out content for a specific persona, this is determined by the content app settings screen for that particular list.
